On May 12, 2016 he received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from the College of Performing Arts, Rowan University, NJ. The John Ness Beck Foundation offers an annual workshop designed to further the art of church choral music, with the goal of furthering John Ness Beck’s vision of excellence in church choral music. The Foundation has sought to honor this goal in several ways. He is the principal percussionist of the Winston-Salem Symphony and is a member of the Greensboro Symphony, Brass Band of Battle Creek, and the Philidor Percussion Group. He left the university to become owner and manager of The University Music House, a retail sheet music store in Mr. Beck established the John Ness Beck Foundation in 1987, only a few months before his death. With BM and MM degrees from the Eastman School of Music, he was the Professor of Percussion for the Percussion Department and conducted the percussion ensemble from 1959-2002.
