Laing O’Rourke is supporting Defence’s operations in the Northern Territory delivering both the Larrakeyah Barracks Redevelopment and Facilities Support to Naval Operations in the North projects as managing contractor.The planning of parallel projects Larrakeyah Barracks Redevelopment and Facilities Support to Naval Operations in the North are being managed by Laing O’Rourke under a Defence Managing Contractor arrangement. Together with HMAS Coonawarra, Larrakeyah Barracks supports a large number of visiting Australian and international warships each year, conducting a wide range of operational activities in the region ranging from routine peacetime port visits through to major military mounting operations in support of national security.In the Planning Phase, the project will plan, design and gain the necessary approvals for upgrades across the Barracks, subject to Government and Parliamentary approval, this might include: HMAS Coonawarra, originally known as Darwin Naval Base was constructed inside Larrakeyah Barracks in 1982 to service the Fremantle Class Patrol Boats, which were entering service to replace the Attack Class.
