When using fcntl with F_GETLK, the l_type component of the flock struct is overwritten by any existing lock which would prevent the lock whose attributes are in the struct flock * third argument. The lockfile package exports a LockFile class which provides a simple API for locking files.

- Some platforms provide an flock() that is actually fcntl(2), can't think of the right words to express how deplorable that practice is.
