I decided to skip Echo Mountain for the trip down because I didnt want to lose my motivation to hike. We were there during late afternoon hours and most of the people there were either families or couples, so this definitely seems like a safe, clean, family-friendly place to visit. This hike is very much doable for all ages. This view is like a painting. Great views of the beach, the entrance to theWe were delighted to see that this small promontory was reserved for the public, and we felt it was tastefully designed with a curving "vanishing" walkway leading down to the viewing area where there are teakwood benches facing the sea. There's a sign at the beginning of the hike telling you to please wear your mask when you are within 6 feet from other people.
The side trip to Muir Peak is a 1.2 mile round-trip from Inspiration Point and makes a great option. Indeed, at the parking lot itself, you'll be rewarded with a panoramic east-facing view that includes the San Pablo Reservoir just beneath.Beautiful location to hike and enjoy the great outdoors!
To get to Inspiration Point, simply take Highway 2 westbound from the town of Wrightwood. Once here there are a few trails to choose from and they are nice and accessible to dogs, humans, and baby humans. You almost forget because the sunset views are just breathtaking at times. Part of Tilden Regional Park, this is as far up in the hills as you can get above Berkeley before crossing over into Contra Costa County. The trails are simple so it doesn't take a pro to hike this area.

This is a super family and dog friendly hike. Paved road leads to dead end of gravel and hills for days lol I really enjoy Inspiration Point.
