In addition, significant contribution to this end has been made in the shape of the teaching of Punjabi as a foreign language and the work on Punjabi Pedia.The University has not only contributed immensely to the development of literature and culture but has also emerged as a key institution for imparting teaching and for carrying out research in life sciences, physical sciences, medicine, engineering and technology, business studies, law, social sciences, languages, education, information sciences, and arts and culture. Panjab University has produced a large number of distinguished alumni who have contributed immensely to the cause of the nation building.
Its vision is to establish and incorporate a University for the advancement of Punjabi studies and development of Punjabi language as a medium of instruction or otherwise for providing instruction in humanistic and scientific subjects and generally for the promotion of education and research. It has been untiringly fulfilling the requirements of a large part of Punjab, mainly the Malwa region, through more than 270 affiliated colleges, Nine neighbourhood campuses, 14 constituent colleges and six regional centres.
There are also two Nobel Laureates among the university's alumni and former staff. This is the second University in the world to be named after a language, the first being Hebrew University of Israel.
Developed by: The Punjabi University, Patiala founded in 1962, has among its alumni many who have become notable, including Member of parliament, Lok Sabha, members of the Punjab Legislative Assembly and several famous people in areas such as Punjabi literature, social sciences, economics, philosophy, and music.

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ-ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਸਾਇੰਸ, ਮੈਡੀਸਨ, ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਸਾਇੰਸ, ਬਿਜ਼ਿਨੈਸ ਸਟਡੀਜ਼, ਕੰਪਿਊਟਿੰਗ ਸਾਇੰਸਿਸ, ਐਜੂਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਨਫਰਮੇਸ਼ਨ ਸਾਇੰਸ, ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਕਾਨੂੰਨ, ਕਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ, ਲਾਈਫ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਥੇ ਉਚੇਰੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਲਈ ਕਾਰਜਸ਼ੀਲ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਖੋਜ ਵੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀ ਅਨਮੋਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੈ। ਖੋਜ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਹਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਚਦਿਆਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਗ੍ਰਾਂਟਸ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਲ 2002-07 ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਲਈ ‘ਪੰਜ ਸਟਾਰ’ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਗੇੜ 2008-13 ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਜੇ ਗੇੜ 2016-23 ਲਈ ‘ਏ’ ਗਰੇਡ ਤਜਵੀਜ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ 70 ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਖੋਜ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਅਰਾਂ ਖੋਜ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਰਜਰਤ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ 14000 ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਕੋਰਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਹਾਸਿਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਵਡੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਿਅਤ ਕਰਣ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਵਾ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਵਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਨੂੰ, ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਦਿਆ/ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਛੜਿਆ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨਾਲ 270 ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ ਕਾਲਿਜ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ 9 ਨਿਕਟਵਰਤੀ ਕੈਂਪਸ, 14 ਕਾਂਸਟੀਚੁਐਂਟ ਕਾਲਜ ਅਤੇ 6 ਖੇਤਰੀ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਇਸ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਾਧੀਨ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਤਰ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਿਅਤ ਕਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਅਹਿਮ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਮਾਣਮੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ਤੇ ਮੌਲਾਨਾ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਟਰਾਫੀ (ਮਾਕਾ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਹਤਰੀਨ ਕਾਰਗੁਜ਼ਾਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਮਾਣ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੌਲਾਨਾ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਟਰਾਫੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ 10 ਵਾਰ ਜਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ 6 ਵਾਰ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਇਹ ਟਰਾਫੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਕਾਰਜਸ਼ੀਲ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਇੰਸ, ਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਣ ਤੇ ਖੋਜ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਪੱਧਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੋਜਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਅੱਗੇ ਵਧਣ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਤਤਪਰ ਹੈ। ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਆਦਾਨ-ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਵੀਨ ਸਿਖਣ ਦੀ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਚੇਸ਼ਟਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਇਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਸਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ, ਖੋਜਾਰਥੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਸ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਦੈਵ-ਕਾਲ ਉਨਤੀ ਦੀ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
