Established in 1959 to protect the Gunpowder River and the Big and Little Gunpowder Falls, Gunpowder Falls State Park is now one of Maryland’s largest state parks. We stumbled on a nice walk along the river.We took our daughter (8 years old) here and walked to the second put in. — Getting outdoors has been a great thing for people during the pandemic, but for some who live near the Gunpowder Falls State Park in Monkton, the traffic has become a real problem. I remember this beach growing up, pretty much the sThough I might be lost because of the isolated road then we saw the breathtaking views of nature ‼️ The tall trees shade the park & the river has huge stones to step on and you can sit and hang out!This place is super popular with locals and offers great views no matter which side you are on. We were disappointed the parking area for the central area was closed with no information posted about alternatives.

We were looking for a hike.
Only once, in the Sweet Air section, have I hiked the Little river and further exploration was in order. Presently, some sections of the park have been thoroughly surveyed and detailed maps are available for free download. During the weekends lots of people bring their kids and dogs to go for scenic hikes. Parking lot along US 1 at the Big Gunpowder Falls is closed until late fall 2020. This is a beautiful park that is hidden away from the main road.

My first time here and it was so over crowded... Just about all the picnic tables and parking spots were taken. Some people even fiAwesome state park with a beautiful beach. We had some trouble finding the trails so just walked around the parking lot before hitting the beach.
