Terrain is flat with farmland and trees. The Horse Camp is a circular drive around a grassy area with lots of shade. Mostly flat, some nice shaded areas, beautiful scenery, tons of people on bikes. It needs a little maintenance but no major issues. There is limited parking at the enterance but plenty of parking at the beach just down the way. Had a glass of wine then an easy return. Beyond the expressway north the trail is paved and motor vehicles are not permitted.The trail from downtown South Haven out to Van Buren State Park is a nice paved trail, and a good way to escape the summer crowds of the town and can be done on any bike. The mosquitos caught up as we had to carry bikes over trees every 30 yards. Four bridle trails with 12 miles pass through a beech/maple forest adjacent to Van Buren Lake. In fact this offroad trail is a hidden gem in the Michigan trail system. about 3 miles in we turned around. The nortnern part near South Haven is paved, with a trail spur that goes the Van Buren State Park. We saw a couple of walkers and runners. The trail that branches off towards Hartford is pretty much unimproved and is best if you want to justify… I would call it a path or bike path not a trail.Parking is limited, flat trail, sometimes needs to be mowed in the early spring.
